- Rubbing alcohol
- Microfiber cloths
- Cotton swabs
#1 Before you proceed to washing, don’t forget to turn off the device. This will stop you from pushing the buttons unintentionally and going somewhere you don’t want to go. It maybe a good idea to remove the battery as well. This is optional.
#2 Use rubbing alcohol to clean the keypad. Prepare a solution of ½ distilled water and ½ rubbing alcohol.
#3 Before you apply the solution, make sure you wipe the keypad with a cloth to get rid of dust.
#4 Use a toothpick to go between the keys. Dip the toothpick into the solution, then get out all the dirt and grime that has accumulated in between the buttons.
#5 Next, take a cotton swab and dip it into the solution. Gently rub the keys. One more time cover the spaces between the buttons. This will help remove the extra residue that has built up inside. Don’t press too hard as you may harm the device. Be careful with the rubbing alcohol as well. You don’t need to put too much of it. Extra liquid may damage the phone, especially if it leaks under the keys.
#6 When you are done, go over the device. Wipe it down with a cloth or rag.
#7 Let the phone dry before you start using it again. Put back the battery if you have removed it.
Another trick you can use to ensure a more efficient clean for your keypad is to use compressed air. Make sure you use short bursts of air at small intervals.
- Whatever cleaners you choose to use, never spray them directly on your phone. Always use a cloth or towel instead. Spray alcohol or other cleaning liquids on it and use it to wipe the device.
- When it comes to cloths and rags, you should know that there are special cloths for cleaning phones and they are usually provided by the manufacturer of the device. However, they are a bit expensive. In truth, you can use a regular microfiber cloth or clean rag. A cotton towel will also work.
