Computers are an important part of our lives and we use them daily. The most common thing that happens with all of us, and which annoys us is a slow PC. After using the device, be it computers or smartphones, for some time the performance of the device degrades and it starts lagging.
Some of the major reasons by which PC Performance goes down are:
There are many reasons for a pc to have a slow speed, but following are the main reasons, that are most common in reducing the pc speed.
- Outdated operating system.
- Outdated drivers.
- Too many programs running concurrently.
- Low hard disk space.
- Placing too many shortcuts on desktop.
How to Boost PC Performance?
There are many ways in which you can improve your computer’s or PC performance without changing the hardware, but here i am compiling the best ways in which you can boost your PC performance.
1) Installing a good antivirus program
Viruses and malware are the main cause of a lagging computer. You must consider installing some good antivirus programs to protect your pc from malware. Viruses eat up your computers resources and even corrupt files, this results in slow performance of the pc.
2) Managing Hard Disk Space
Having a low hard disk space on your computer also poses a problem, and results in a slow pc. Computer requires some free space to work, to store temporary files, and the space required may vary from program to program. You must always keep free space around 6-7 GB in the drive where your operating system is installed.
The solution to this problem is simple, delete unwanted files or transfer them to an external hard drive. You can transfer videos and other media as they eat up a lot of space.
3) Having Less Shortcuts on Desktop
Having shortcuts on desktop definitely makes the job easier as you don’t have to browse through your hard drive to search for the file/folder/program. But this causes your pc to run slow, as when you are storing too many files on your desktop, each icon takes some virtual memory and this will slow down your pc.
The only solution that you can follow is to remove unwanted shortcuts from your desktop, and not storing large files on your desktop.
4) Closing Unnecessary Programs
Windows or any operating system loads some set of programs at the start up. Some of these programs are very important for the computer to function properly while others are not of that much importance.
You can boost your pc performance by closing programs that are not used by you, but are still running. Such as any software that you installed recently, which is not required in the computers idle state.
Follow these steps to close unwanted running programs (in Windows):
- Open RUN and then type msconfig and then press enter.
- A new window will open, click on startup button, present at the top of the dialog box.
- Now you will be able to see all the programs that are running on startup of your computer. You can select/unselect what programs to load at the startup.
Note: Closing important programs might cause some problems, so please unselect the programs carefully.
5) Disk Defragmentation
Files present in the system are stored in different memory addresses. That are scattered around. Suppose that you have a file, then that file would be stored in different parts in the memory and these parts would be scattered around. The computer takes some time to collect all these parts from the different locations and display it as a single file.
What Disk defragmentation does is, that it collects all the parts of a single file and store them at a single memory location so that computer can access them easily.
You should do disk defragmentation once a week to increase your pc’s speed.
These all tricks would help you boost your pc performance, and will definitely speed up your pc. If you have any doubt leave a comment and I will be happy to answer to your query.
